Why character count matters
Character limits are enforced on Twitter/X (280), SMS (160 per segment), meta descriptions (150–160), and many CMS fields. Knowing your character count before pasting saves time and prevents truncation. The spaces and lines breakdown is also useful when formatting code snippets, CSV rows, or structured text where whitespace carries meaning.
Privacy — your text stays on your device
ConvertForge processes your text entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No text is ever sent to a server, logged, or stored. You can use the character counter with sensitive content, confidential documents, or private drafts without any privacy concerns.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it count newlines as characters?
Yes — a newline (Enter key) is counted as one character in the total, but not in the "no spaces" count since line breaks are whitespace.
What counts as a space?
Any whitespace character — spaces, tabs, and newlines all count toward the Spaces total.
What counts as a line?
Each newline character (pressing Enter) starts a new line. The Lines count is the number of newlines plus one — so a single line of text with no line breaks counts as 1 line.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
